Happy St. Patrick’s Day, all! While today can often be represented as one filled with indulgence of the hoppy variety, our fitness guru and bestie Heather Dorak is reminding us that there are a lot more ways to commemorate the holiday this year. Take a peek at her tips below for staying grateful and green, today and everyday.
Tradition: The transmission of customs or beliefs from generation to another. How cool is that? Tradition is such a powerful way we can pass along history and celebrate the ones we love. And while I may not be Irish, I appreciate the tradition of today wholeheartedly. When St. Patrick’s Day comes along, for me, it is a day to celebrate heritage and culture – a day I like to dedicate and give gratitude to all the ‘green’ things in my life.
Without her we are nothing. She can easily be overlooked and only celebrated on days like Earth Day, but really we owe so much more credit to her. Take a moment to think about how impacting Mother Nature is on your life day to day. The sun rises, spreading sunshine, warmth, food for growth, and Vitamin D to boost our moods. The ground on which we walk, run, and hike to keep active and live a healthy lifestyle. The food we eat, grown in gardens to nourish our bodies for their daily activities. The list goes on and on. Truly, Mother Nature is on the top of my list, and in this moment, I encourage you to give her some extra thanks!
Second to Mother Nature, feeding your body with the most nutritious foods on the planet is one of the best things you can do. Sticking to the simple rule of eating as many green things as possible is a sure way to get your body fueled and feeling its best. Greens are important ingredients to our bodies as they ensure proper cell detoxification and alkalize. Greens are packed with powerful nutrients that keep our digestive systems healthy, our nails strong, our skin glowing, and our hair indestructible.
It can be challenging getting my greens in due to my busy schedule, but I never run into an issue with some of my favorite green products by my side. (Paleta is my favorite go-to for farm to table organic meals and green juices. It is always a happy day when the mailman drops off my Paleta order.) And if I feel a little bit more drained than usual, I always have Eboost’s Spruce on hand. Their single serving packets are great to always keep one on hand wherever I am.
Environmentally Friendly Beauty
Being ‘green’ to me also means having environmentally friendly products on hand. Something many people aren’t aware of is that our skin is actually the largest organ in our bodies. It is the first thing that comes in contact with our environment, and it is one of the most important things to keep healthy. I tend to not wear much make-up, as I like to stick to keeping it as natural as possible. However, it is still important to, at the very least, clean your face at the end of the day.
Tata Harper’s Nourishing Oil Cleanser is my go-to product for cleansing the skin with a silky blend of biocompatible oils and esters. It leaves my skin soft and non-greasy feeling, while keeping the moisture barrier intact and providing my skin with vitamins and nutrients. As a mama-to-be, I am also very excited to use Derma-E’s all natural mineral baby sunscreen to protect him from sunny Los Angeles. (Not to mention all the baby products galore from Babyganics.)
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
