When I was 13 years old, my mom had me start getting facials in my hometown of Los Angeles. It seemed so silly at the time, trekking in my school uniform to see a woman named Anika who slathered my skin with Yon-Ka products and chatted away about the importance of eye cream. My mom would give Anika a check (and usually some fruit she picked up for her at the farmers market, because she’s thoughtful that way) and we would drive home with my mom, ever the little bird in my ear, saying, “You must always take care of your skin.”

Oh, goodness me, do I get it now. Being in layers of makeup on set for work, there’s nothing I relish more than off days with a freshly scrubbed face. And to feel confident in my skin requires a bit of maintenance, from drinking loads of water, to always applying sunblock, and getting a facial as often as possible. Here are a few of my favs for a skincare pick me up. You taught me well, Mama!

London

Nichola massages your faces from the inside out (yes, really), sculpting your cheekbones and reshaping your face with targeted movements to lift and brighten. On top of using the best products and the most one-of-a-kind technique, Nichola also happens to have the kindest and most calming energy that just being in her company, alone, feels therapeutic. Check out our past feature on her (aptly named A Life Changing Facial) to see just what I’m talking about.

New York

A New York institution for A-List celebs and anyone seeking that skin that glows from within (hey hey, Jessica Alba). Using only natural products and specializing in micro current treatments that send a pulse through the facial tissue, which exercises and lifts the muscle, this skincare oasis is the best in the Big Apple. If you can’t make it to the salon, pick up some of the signature products like the JV Face Mask for an at home pick me up.

Los Angeles

This spot is a hometown classic for good reason, with aestheticians who are as skilled as they are friendly (like our gal Kelly Viavittine). Scrubs and red light treatments are de rigeur, and the beautifully designed space transports you on a little spa vacation for the day. And as with Joanna Vargas, if you can’t make it in, a bottle of ExfoliKate will do the trick for that homegrown glow.

Toronto

With their signature cold laser treatments, three sessions at W SkinCare leaves your skin tight and radiant for a solid six months. Ask for Josie, with her calm and sweet demeanor and incredible focus on maximizing your skin’s luminosity.
